Whale and Dolphin Watching Costa Rica's South Pacific

A Full Day of Whale and Dolphin Watching!

This is the perfect tour to see some of the most animals on the planet! Your adventure begins early in the morning as you are picked up in Dominical or Uvita and taken about an hour and a half to the town of Sierpe where we will stop for a delicious typical breakfast. We will then board a comfortable boat for a nearly sixty minute ride through one of the largest mangrove swamps in Central America. On this brief journey you will see many bird and animal species including monkeys, crocodiles and many other snakes and reptiles! Once we enter the Pacific Ocean, your Naturalist Guide will fill you in on fascinating facts about all of the amazing animals you will see on the tour.

Spectacular Scenery-Majestic Animals!

Your Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour continues as our boat trip journeys out to the best observation places to see turtles, whales and dolphins. There are amazing views of Cano Island, beautiful Drake Bay and Violines Island as we travel out to the main migration routes. There are five different types of dolphins that can be found off the Southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica including Bottlenose, Spotted, Spinner and sometimes-even Orca. At least three types of whales are often seen on this tour- Killer, Humpback and Pilot. Some of these beautiful mammals are over thirty feet long! Many whales and dolphins are endangered and protected from extinction. Costa Rica actively participates in enforcing the International protection rules that are in place to ensure that these special animals will live for generations to come to see and enjoy!

A Special Day in Paradise!

Most of your Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour takes place in or around the beautiful Marino Ballena National Park. Founded in 1989 as the first marine park in Costa Rica, Marino Ballena National Park was expanded in 1992 as an increased effort to promote the preservation of the fragile coral reef and vulnerable animal population that inhabits these waters. While whales and dolphins can be seen in this area nearly year round, the prime viewing months are December to March as part of the northern hemisphere migration and from July to October as the southern hemisphere migration takes place. A must do experience as part of your Costa Rica Vacation, a day of whale and dolphin watching will be one of your best memories of your time here in paradise!
