The Nicoya Peninsula is full of pretty little beach towns, all with the same laid-back vibes and amazing surf. Surrounded by luscious greenery with a beautiful long sandy beach, Playa Tambor, Costa Rica is no different. Given that Tambor has its own domestic airport serving the entire area, it makes sense to fly directly from San Jose’s international airport as soon as you arrive in the country. However, if you fancy an adventure, or are travelling on more of a budget then you can head to Puntarenas, catch the ferry to Paquera and drive the remaining distance to Tambor. The roads may not be perfectly smooth, but the scenery en route along the coast more than makes up the road itself.

Breathtaking Beaches and Aquamarine Waters

Chosen as the location for the Fox TV series Temptation Island 2, Tambor Beach is quickly becoming a a hugely attractive vacation destination in Costa Rica. Tambor is actually one of the more developed towns in the areas with more places to stay and explore. It is the ideal base to stay whilst you check out the area. Renowned for its breathtaking beaches with aquamarine waters, Playa Tambor is the perfect place to a peaceful getaway. The beach lies in Ballena or Whale Bay, taking its name from the migration of whales who com to mate and reproduce in the warm waters of the area. As a result, marine life is in abundance here.

Where to Stay in Tambor

The great thing about staying in Tambor Beach, Costa Rica is the diversity of the area from restaurants and hotels to the actual surroundings themselves. You can be in the middle of the rainforest in a national park one minute and then soaking up the sun on a fabulously luxurious private beach the next. Hotel Tango Mar is also highly attractive for its location on its own private beach and boasts its own golf course if you fancy a game.

From hiking and birdwatching to strolling along the beautiful mile-long beach, there is plenty to do in Tambor, Costa Rica. Don’t let the size of this quaint town fool you; Playa Tambor also offers fabulous opportunities for swimming, sunbathing and even fishing in a tropical paradise, protected from ocean swells by two rocky platforms to the north and south of the bay. Keen golfers will enjoy the several golf courses in the area and for the more adventurous amongst you, Tortuga Island, Curu Wildlife Refuge and the Cabo Blanco National Park are wonderfully diverse areas to visit and explore.
