Puntarenas is the largest province and one of the most important tourist destinations of Costa Rica. It stretches from Guanacaste in the Nicoya Peninsula right down to the Panamian border and the Osa Peninsula, along the Pacific Coast. Indeed the main attractions of Puntarenas are its beautiful exotic beaches. It has many little islands, inlets, and fabulous National Parks and natural treasures to discover. Its capital of the same name was once a very important port, and it is where you catch the ferry to Nicoya and to the little islands of located in the Gulf of Nicoya. The main commercial port was recently moved to Calderas, and it is also an important cruising destination. Other tourist destinations of Puntarenas include Cobano, beaches of Montezuma, Malpais and Santa Teresa, Cabo Blanco, Jaco, Hermosa, Esterillos, Bejuco, Manuel Antonio National Park, Domincal, Uvita, Corcovado National Park, Pavones and Tivives. Monteverde Cloud Forest reserve, Cano Island, and even the famous Coco Island, 500 kilometers off the Pacific coast, belongs to this awesome province.
