Monteverde Enjoy The Rainforest

Montevede is one of the best destinations of Costa Rica to enjoy a rainforest. Lush green mountains and magical trees make out this magical forest, that is pretty much the way it was hundreds of years ago, yet the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the top destination of Costa Rica. It is also one of the best place to see the resplendent Quetzal, this beautiful shy colorful bird that is so hard to see. In 1951, Quakers settled in Monteverde because of its astonishing natural beauty and pretty soon after that they established a dairy farm. Today the Monteverde Cheese is one of the best of Costa Rica and while it may not compete with foreign cheeses, it is still pretty good. Conservationist are doing their best to protect the 25,000 Acres of this fantastic area, with its 2000 species of plants, 100 species of mammals and 400 species of birds.

Activities In And Around Monteverde

There are of course some amazing Monteverde Tours to do. The Canopy Tours probably offer the best possible views over the canopy of the Cloud Forest, swinging through the trees on a zip line a few hundreds of feet in the air. There is also an infinite number of hikes to do through the many paths and trails of the forests. For those who wish to see it from above but don’t feel so sure about the zip lines, there are some Sky Walks that could be a better option; these are some sorts of suspension bridges built a few hundred feet above the ground, perfect for bird and monkey watching. Take a tour of the forests horseback riding, cross rivers and see awesome waterfalls. Take a tour of the Dairy Farm, La Lecheria, and learn about the cheese making procedures, and buy cheese and ice cream.

Where To Stay In Monteverde

It may be lost in the middle of the cloud forest, but Monteverde has many very nice and comfortable hotels to choose from. Of all the Hotels of Monteverde, the El Establo Lodge Monteverde is the best. Luxurious hospitality, world class service and excellent amenities and facilities in the middle of a cloud forest is definitely worth the trip! See also the Sapo Verde, the Arco Iris Lodge, or the Hotel Heliconia, amongst many others. These hotels are all surrounded by nature while they are as comfortable as they are stylish with top notch service. Restaurants are just as plentiful in Monteverde with the Restaurante Lucia on top of the list, with its sophisticated gourmet cuisine, followed by El Bosque and Johnny’s Pizza. The Morpho’s café is one of Monteverde’s well kept secret, excellent for travellers on a lower budget.

A visit to Monteverde is always inspiring. If you are lucky enough to come face to face with the mythical quetzal you will certainly feel blessed! This was the sacred bird of the Mayan, Tolbec and Aztec kings. It is so incredibly beautiful and rare that at first it was believed to be no more than a legend! Indeed Monteverde seems to be the setting of some enchanted dream. As you walk through the trails, if you listen carefully, you can hear the sound of nature whispering to you. You will see tapirs, agoutis, blue morpho butterflies, myriads of birds and small cute frogs. The bio-diversity, the actual life itself, is overwhelming, and pretty much changes the way we see our lives, and planet Earth. While in Costa Rica, sure you will love the beaches, but do not forget the beautiful cloud forests!
