Guanacaste has always been synonmous for sun and surf in my mind. This area is home to Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches and the country's best Hotels & Resorts. On Friday morning I strapped my surf board to the roof of my car and hit the road for the drive up to the lively beach town of Tamarindo, ready for some rest and relaxation. The drive took me about four and a half hours on the new Caldera highway, up the coast and over the Tempisque bridge. Every time I make this drive I am always impressed by the vistas and the landscapes that open up before me on the road. Guanacaste is truly one of Costa Rica's most beautiful provinces - with wide open farmland and pastures and serene natural settings.
This weekend there was a "fam-trip" organized for travel agents at one of the area's most prestigous hotels - The Tamarindo Diría. Located beachfront, right in the center of town - no other property has the location the this hotel has. This hotel is "Classic Tamarindo" at it's best and has been in operation for over 25 years and has hosted an uncountable number of weddings, honeymoons, family, seniors, college spring-break trips and unforgettable vacations to Costa Rica since opening it's doors. This iconic hotel is known for it's fabulous seaside accommodations and world class service. The Tamarindo Diria is THE PLACE to stay in Tamarindo, Guanacaste.
I got in before the rest of the group with hopes to go check out the surfing in the neighboring beach towns of Playa Grande or Avellanas, but when I check into the Diriá I didn't want to leave! My jaw dropped as I walked into the lobby and saw the beach of Tamarindo open up before me. My room was a Sunset Ocean View room located on the third floor and I can't begin to tell you how incredible the view was from the balcony. Costa Rica has strict laws about building next to the ocean and there are very few hotels that offer real "beach front" accommodations like the Tamarindo Diriá. The sun and sure was just steps away from my room and I can't remember ever having a better view than I did from here.
I drank a passion fruit smoothy as I watched the sun set over the Pacific Ocean. Tamarindo has a marina on the south side of the beach and there are dozens of boats parked just off shore. The north end of the beach has a river mouth which attracts surfers which flock to the point to enjoy the area's waves. The Tamarindo Diría has another complex just behind the main building on the other side of the street. This is where you'll find the "Tropical Poolside" rooms, which surround one of the biggest and most beautiful pools that I've seen in Costa Rica. This area quieter and perfect for families, while still offering easy access to the beach. The hotel now offers it's guests a casino, sports bar and a wide variety of shops and tour activities to choose from. The Tamarindo Diria is an excellent option for those planning their upcoming Vacation to Costa Rica and want to be in a beautiful natural setting in the heart of a lively beach town.
