Gran Hotel Costa Rica

The Gran Hotel Costa Rica was born in view of the absense of a major first class hotel in the country,in 1928 ,the constitutional Congress of the Republic of Costa Rica enacted a law to build it, there was a provision according to which the Government was granted for twenty years the right to have at their disposal for free two apartments at the Hotel for the lodging of foreign diplomatic representations of extraordinary nature. The contractor also agreed to always serve top-quality Costa Rican coffee at the Hotel.

On December 7, 2004 the Gran Hotel Costa Rica was declared a Historical - Architectural Landmark of Costa Rica, not only for being the first major hotel of the country, but also for its long trajectory, its architecture which represents the San Jose of those years, and the historical complex it forms with other landmarks in the zone.

It has one hundred and twenty ample carpeted rooms, with a spectacular view of the National Theater and Plaza de la Cultura, as well as bathrooms with bathtub, satellite TV, restaurand and piano bar open twenty four hours a day, coffee shop-terrace, halls for special events, private parking lot, laundry service, ice cream parlor, drugstore and optic store.
