In November of 1928, the Congress of the Republic of Costa Rica enacted a law which lead to the construction of the Gran Hotel of Costa Rica. Years later, the magnificent building was named a National Landmark- the only hotel named as one in the entire country! Not only was the Gran Hotel, Costa Rica the first major hotel in the country, but it is famous for being an important architectural landmark. Many foreign diplomats have stayed in the Gran Hotel. Centrally located in the heart of San Jose, the Gran Hotel offers easy access to many National Monuments, museums, parks and other areas of interest.

There are five distinctive dining areas in the Gran Hotel- offering everything from native Costa Rican fare and delicacies to cheeseburgers. Known for the best sea food in the city and world class steaks, diners can enjoy the talented pianists that play during the afternoon and evening at the hotel.
