Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort

Costa Rica's Most Beautiful Beaches

Guanacaste has always been synonmous for sun and surf in my mind. This area is home to Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches and the country's best Hotels & Resorts. On Friday morning I strapped my surf board to the roof of my car and hit the road for the drive up to the lively beach town of Tamarindo, ready for some rest and relaxation. The drive took me about four and a half hours on the new Caldera highway, up the coast and over the Tempisque bridge. Every time I make this drive I am always impressed by the vistas and the landscapes that open up before me on the road. Guanacaste is truly one of Costa Rica's most beautiful provinces - with wide open farmland and pastures and serene natural settings.

Tortuguero Pachira Lodge
Hotel Inspection October 29th -30th, 2011

A Prehistoric Wonderland to be discovered!

I started my trip from the Morazan Park in Downtown San Jose. The tour bus had large windows and plush seat with a lavatory in the back. We wound our way out of San Jose and into the national park Braulio Carrillo. Words can't describe the beauty of this park. It is comprised of ancient volcanoes and rugged mountains that are still rising from the collision of tectonic plates far below. It is one of the last places on the planet where no humans have fully explored. New species of wild life and plants are still being discovered in this park and the bio diversity is among greatest on Earth. I almost expected to see a T-Rex pop its head out of the jungle at any moment!

Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge
Hotel Inspection October 15th - 16th, 2011

Excape to the Clouds!

Just under two hours from San José you'll find the area of San Gerardo de Dota. This pristine mountain area is home to virtually untouched cloud forests, very similar to what you might expect to see in Monteverde - but without the crowds. We took the road out of town heading east, through Cartago and onwards over the "Cerro de la Muerte". Here you'll find some of Costa Rica's highest mountains, at an altitude of 13,000 plus feet. Parts of this area are above the tree line, creating an eerie landscape of moss covered shrubs and trees.

Escape to the Caribbean

Costa Rica is a small country, but has so much to offer with two coasts and a wide variety of ecosystems and cultural regions - and the Caribbean is no exception! The beaches of Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, Cocles and beyond are absolutely stunning and some of Costa Rica's most beautiful. The laid back tropical atmosphere that is the Caribbean is contagious - and the people charming and friendly. September and October are popular times to visit Costa Rica's Caribbean as the weather is excellent and typically drier than the rest of the country.

Royal Corin Arenal
Hotel Inspection Sep 30th - Oct 2nd, 2011

Royal Corin: Deluxe Hotel

A couple of days ago we both, Lizi and Gaby, had the great opportunity to stay at Royal Corin at Arenal Volcano. Royal Corin is a very pleasant hotel located just meters away from the volcano, or at least that is how it looks like from your balcony! The room, hot springs, weather and of course the view of the volcano all day long makes La Fortuna an excellent place to enjoy your vacations to Costa Rica.

Le Cameleón Puerto Viejo
Hotel Inspection October 1st, 2011

Luxury in the Caribbean

Curious to see what all the hype was about, I was happy to have programmed a site inspection of the most of talked about of the upscale resorts on Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast - Le Cameleón. This property is one area's newest and most luxurious hotels, breaking the mold of the more rustic bungalows that characterize the other properties in the region. The concept is quite unique and very modern decorated nearly all in white. Like a cameleon, the hotel transforms on a daily basis as colors of room accents such as pillows or paintings are changed throughout the property - really cool!

Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Reserve
Hotel Inspection September 16th - 17th, 2011

Villa Blanca - Paradise in the Clouds!

A few weeks ago I had a chance to visit the Hotel Villa Blanca outside of San Ramón, Costa Rica on the way towards the Arenal Volcano. As I think of my experience here I am transported back to this beautiful area, this peaceful paradise in the clouds. This mountainous region is known as a cloud forest, due to it's elevation and humidity - very similar to the one you would see in the famous area of Monteverde, Costa Rica. Nights can be a bit chilly here as the fog creeps in - and the villas are cozy and romantic equipped chimneys and jacuzzi bathtubs.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism

Hotel Si Como No in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica is one of the country's highest rated in terms of sustainability. The hotel's conservation efforts and contributions in their community have earned them "five leaves" - the highest level awarded to any property for their commitment to the environment by Costa Rica's Tourism Board (ICT). Corcovado Adventures Tent Camp
Hotel Inspection September 2nd - 4th, 2011

Osa Peninsula in the Southern Pacific

We moved to Costa Rica in June and made some new friends fairly quickly and they suggested that we go spend a week-end down on the Osa Peninsula in the Southern Pacific part of this beautiful country. Considered one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet and the last frontier in Costa Rica, we put a group together and decided to do a package with the Corcovado Adventures Tent Camp, on the Osa Peninsula, near Drake Bay and it was some adventure . My wife and I love to camp, but in our mid 50’s now, sleeping on the ground even with an air mattress is not nearly as appealing at the double bed, in the hard wood floored and mosquito proof enclosure that we had at the Corcovado Adventures Tent Camp. In fact you could zip the entire tent cabin up and yet still have screens where we could sleep to the lullaby of ocean waves and see the beautiful grounds at day and stars at night.

Visit to Hotel Presidente in Downtown San Jose

Hotel Presidente Site Inspection - June 28th, 2011

I recently took some time to visit the center of Costa Rica's capital of San José and visit the newly remodeled Hotel Presidente. Located right off the Central Avenue, this centrally located hotel has one of the best possible locations for those looking to see some of the hustle and bustle of city life. Parking was not a problem as the hotel offers spaces for guests and visitors around the back, which is extremely important because finding parking in San José can be quite a chore sometimes! I parked the car in the secure lot and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff in the spacious lobby of the Hotel Presidente Costa Rica.

Visit to Pachira Lodge in Tortuguero

Pachira Lodge Inspection April 9th - 11th, 2011

Tortuguero is one of my favorite places in Costa Rica. Nothing compares to the boat rides through the canals, the fresh air, the views of the water and the rain forest. One of the most memorable experiences I’ve had is kayaking in Tortuguero at sunset - this place is truly spectacular! Many people flock to this area in July when you have a good chance of seeing one of nesting sea turtle that comes to these protected beaches to lay their eggs, but in my opinion this area is worth a visit year round and there’s far more to see here than just the turtles.

Visit to Monte Azul

Monte Azul Hotel Inspection March 5th - 7th, 2011

After hearing the many rave reviews from our clients and people in the travel industry here in Costa Rica, I was very excited to have the opportunity to Monte Azul personally. I wanted to see if all the buzz was true first hand, I even had clients say that they began to cry when it was their time to leave.
