Founded over thirty years ago on a former coffee plantation, La Garita Orchid Gardens provides a place where visitors can experience orchid life in a plethora of different settings. A peaceful place full of exhibition nurseries, many different garden settings and beautiful tropical trails, La Garita offers all guests a chance to experience the beauty that is Costa Rica. The original owner, Claudio Salas, a renowned botanist, was instrumental in salvaging some of the large native trees on the original property and has created a very special place close to San Jose and the International Airport at Juan Santamaria where visitors can observe the fruits of his passion and labors in a ecological haven.

Many different plants exist in the garden- see a large variety of ornamental and tropical plants such as gingers, palms and heliconias, as well as orchids. One of the unique features of La Garita is that 100% of the orchid plants in the gardens are laboratory produced and then introduced into the gardens where they will be allowed to reproduce in their natural habitat.

La Garita Orchid Gardens is made up of four primary attractions- beautiful walking trails, orchid laboratory, showroom and a demo nursery. Every element of these four attractions is designed to encourage the preservation, cultivation and reproduction of the amazing plants that are grown and highlighted in this special place.

Reasonably priced and open six days a week from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, La Garita is the perfect place to admire nature with your family or any orchid aficionado.
